Mark your calender for May 19, 2007 as the Northern Kentucky Vintners and Grape Growers Association present the second annual Northern Kentucky Wine Festival. A newer addition to the great local festivals in Northern Kentucky. This event showcases Kentucky's finest grapes, farmed and developed into exquisite wines bottled right in Kentucky.  Not only can you sample great wines from locals but great food as well. Offerings Include Chicago Dogs, to Paninni's, a fajitas bar & a local favorite Graeter's Ice cream for your sweet tooth, beer and much more! The fun doesn't stop there live music from local bands including jazz and rock will be there as well as crafters & business throughout including Vintage Body Spa! Shop Indie - Scribbles Cafe & Book Store

Located at 616 Main in Covington KY Main Strauss is Scribbles Cafe and Book Store.

If you are looking for a place to call your local favorite spot, don't settle for the common commercialized shop, give Scribbles Cafe a try. They are proud to offer locally roasted and fair-trade coffee. With plenty of places settle in and relax there's no need to be in a rush. 

Not only does this shop provide you with the most perfect cozy reading setting, but they house many treasures to feast your eyes on. From walls lined with gently used books at half the price, to Cd's and records you will also find some Supa' funky hand made screen printed wares.

Co-owner Carla Wilson is also the owner of Supastarr, handmade boutique items of screen printed housewares,clothing,accessories & paper goods also to be found at the cafe.

If these aren't good enough reasons to call this local a fav, the back of the building is a rather large space devoted to Carla's obsession with vintage clothing for your shopping pleasure.

Q.) Where did the name Scribbles come from?

A.) The name Scribbles was actually one of the first names that popped into our heads. We were sitting around thinking of ways to title a place that embodies 'over caffeinated thoughts and ideas.' And Scribbles seemed perfect.

Q.) What does "independent" mean to you.

A.) Independent to me, peronally, means not controlled by others. We don't have investors to answer to. The only opinions, outside of our own, that affect the way we do business are our customers. We are family owned and operated. We make decisions for our business that we all collaboratively decide is best for us, as a family and for the community around us.

Q.) Any upcoming events for this summer?

A.) Our next craft night is May 4th 7:30pm. We are also displaying work from azuregrackle.etsy.com in May and stillettoheights.etsy.com in June. Maifest is just around the corner and we are planning on setting up a table to hand out free stuff and promotional material for Etsy.

Dine Indie - Close To Home

Eat Indie, Close to Home is our special feature for the week. My husband and I just celebrated our fourth anniversary and to celebrate this weekend was full of pampering, fun, some diamonds and a fantastic restaurant(thanks hubby)! Knotty Pine on the Bayou in Cold Spring Kentucky was our last stop on our romantic weekend getaway.

About five years ago my husband took me to the Knotty Pine on our fourth date and I enjoyed the best blackened halibut steak I've ever eaten. This experience was no different. The Knotty Pine brings a Cajun flair to a not so average menu. Including an array of seafood, craw fish,alligator strips, steaks and burgers. I definitely recommend some of the house specialties prepared by chef John local to Cold Springs, including the spicy gumbo and rice it's so delicious. The "hole in the wall" restaurant holds a glassed in deck that's cozy and romantic even during colder days. They will also mix up some fantastic cocktails for you at their full service bar. Make reservations before you go because they are always booked and a line to get in at the door.
